Bottle cap wind chime

I love wind chimes in the garden, and have longed for a gorgeous set for a couple of years now. Problem is, not only do they cost over $150, I would just be waiting for the first unexpected wind storm to blow that “c” note right out of my yard! Wind chimes are simply any item that is light enough to blow in the wind, can be tied to a hanging implement with twine or fishing line, and makes a pleasant noise (to your ears) when they clink together! Unless you want to create tuned pipe wind chimes, that’s all the basic you need to know.  We searched the web and found a handful of great DIY wind chimes from the re-purposed to the downright creative, and here they are!
If you visit your local antique mall, you will find a lot of vintage odds and ends for relatively cheap prices… skeleton keys and locks are two that would make great wind chimes. Love this re-purposed idea!

Fabric, mod podge & spray paint can work a miracle on a $20 plastic chair!

For our little homework station project, I wanted to find a really inexpensive option for the girls' desk chair. I bought the vintage wood desk at a store called Another Man's Junk here in Phoenix and I love it's simple lines, but I wanted the chair to feel a little more fun and youthful. I poked around online trying to find a cheap upholstered office chair to recover in a pretty fabric when I stumbled on these $20 chairs at IKEA. I thought they would be a good candidate for a decoupage project (this one has really stuck in my brain!).

How to remove calcium buildup

Today’s post isn’t very pretty.  It’s actually kind of gross.  Unless you like the sight of calcium build up.
I spent the better part of Wednesday deep cleaning our master bathroom.  When Brad came home from work he found me washing the walls.  Yeah, I went that far.
While on my cleaning bender, I tackled our bathroom faucets.  I have to admit that I had neglected them so there was a crazy amount of calcium build up on them.
We have really hard water here in Indianapolis.  A couple years ago we got a water softener to help with the water hardness.  The water softener works well but it doesn’t keep the calcium from building up on our faucets and our toilets still need to be cleaned weekly.
So today I’m sharing how to clean calcium off faucets in case any of you are fighting the good calcium build up fight.

DIY upholstered bed! Includes materials list, costs and complete step-by-step instructions! Add a couple nightstands and you have a complete designer-inspired bedroom set.

I blogged the whole process, and I still get lots of questions about it. I completely understand the questions, because I think the way I wrote it all out – over a bunch of different posts, with no common list of materials or costs – was a little confusing. I definitely could’ve chronicled the process in a much clearer way!
I’ve been wanting to collect the tutorial for the whole process start-to-finish all in one place so you can get right to making your own, if you’re so inclined. Plus, it’s fun to look back on how Andy and I tackled something we weren’t sure we could do. So finally, I’m pulling the tutorial all together for you – materials, costs, and all the steps.

Tips for Preparing a New Flowerbed

Last month I had shared how we were doing a bit of Front Yard Landscape Planning now that spring had finally arrived. Our front yard is nice and large but I felt like the area around the front walkway need a boost in the curb appeal department and new flower beds could achieve that!
